FEIG Loop Detectors & Vehicle Detection Units
Inductive Loop Detectors for Gates, Barriers & Car Parks
FEIG VEK series inductive loop detectors are the industry-standard choice for reliable vehicle detection at automatic gates, car park barriers, and access control systems across the UK. FEIG loop detectors work by sensing changes in the inductance of a buried wire loop when a vehicle passes over it — triggering gate opening, barrier activation, or safety hold-open functions. Available in single and dual channel versions with DIN rail mounting for easy installation in control panels.
FEIG loop detectors are used by gate installers and security integrators throughout the UK and are also referred to as inductive loop detectors, vehicle detection loops, vehicle loop sensors, barrier loop detectors, underground loop sensors, or gate loop triggers. The FEIG VEK MNH range is particularly popular for its USB diagnostic interface and wide supply voltage range.

Frequently Asked Questions — Loop Detectors
How does a FEIG loop detector work?
A FEIG inductive loop detector measures the inductance of a wire loop buried beneath the road surface. When a vehicle (which contains metal) drives over the loop, it causes a measurable change in inductance which the detector senses, triggering a relay output. This output can open a gate, raise a barrier, activate a safety hold-open function, or count vehicles passing in one direction.
What FEIG loop detector models are available?
We stock the FEIG VEK MNH series including the VEK MNH2 dual-channel DIN rail loop detector. These feature USB diagnostic connectivity, wide AC/DC supply voltage range, easy DIP switch configuration, and advanced settings via PC software. Contact us for availability and current pricing.
What's the difference between a single and dual channel loop detector?
A single channel FEIG loop detector connects to one inductive loop and provides one output. A dual channel FEIG loop detector (like the VEK MNH2) handles two independent loops — useful for directional detection, vehicle counting, simultaneous activation and safety hold-open functions, or monitoring entry and exit loops at the same installation.
Do FEIG loop detectors need to be installed underground?
The sensing loop itself (a wire coil) is cut into the road or ground surface, but the FEIG loop detector unit mounts in a control panel on a DIN rail — no underground installation required for the electronics. Our team can advise on loop installation depths, wire specifications, and sensitivity settings.
